Medicaid policy change?

When we adopted David, a part of the adoption decree was court ordered Medical Assistance until he is 18.  This is because he was a special needs adoption and would have ongoing health care needs. We didn’t request special consideration for medical assistance, it was granted automatically as part of the adoption process for special needs children. Today I was notified by the PRTF where he resides, that medicaid rejected the invoice stating that David’s case was closed. So I called our county social services office and asked about it.  Seems we have to reapply every year for his benefit even though it is court ordered.  This is a first for us.  We have never had to apply for it before, even before the adoption was finalized. I don’t understand this.  It is a simple thing to complete the paperwork.  It is 23 pages.  That isn’t my point.  How can

So much has happened, yesterday, tomorrow… IEP, Respite and more

So much has happened since my last post. Received a call regarding respite care for our youngest son David.  Every weekend, he gets to spend Saturday and Sunday with a host family.  this will give him a break from us, and us a break from him. Received a call from the facilitator for our facilitated IEP.  Meeting tentatively set for Feb 29th, 2012.  Keep our fingers crossed. Contacted Legal Assistance of North Dakota regarding assistance with my appeal for disability.  Sounds very promising. Scheduled appointment with my PCP (Primary Care Physician) to get checked out regarding the numbness I feel in my face. Respite care for David will be a huge benefit.  After spending 24/7 with him for most of the last month, he needs a break from me.  If he was in public school, he would get a break there, but since we are still home-schooling him, there is

>Life and other things

>Well, I was informed today that my medicaid will have a deductable of nearly 1500 dollars starting next month.  seems that the 31k a year my wife gets teaching is too much income for medical assistance in a family of 7.  I had a sleep study two weeks ago, and another one next week.  Get to learn how to sleep with something attached to my face.  We have staffing for the little guy this next week.  supposedly they are going to try to get the principal from his school to come to it.  “to try to repair the relationship…”  yep, good luck with that, he still isn’t going back to school there. i asked the hard question last week.   “What happens if my health takes a turn for the worst when he comes home?” Tweet #fighting4answrs
