Well yesterday, we took our youngest to the hospital and admitted him to the psych unit. Today I got a call from the doctor in the ward. He asked me why we had not been giving David his medicines. When I explained that we had been giving them to him four times a day, and watching him take them, the doctor began to see things a little more clearly. Evidently David has not been swallowing his medicine. The blood work doesn’t show any rittalin or zyprexa in his blood which means he hasn’t swallowed any for at least three days. So now we are going to get him back on his medicines, and work on getting some compliance issues taken care of that will ensure that he takes his medicine like he is supposed to. Each day moves forward without prompting. We start when the rest of the kids leave the house. 8am – four kids off to school. 8:30 breakfast and clean up 9:00 play time 9:30 exercise period 10:00 study math 10:30 break 11:00 spelling lessons 11:30 – 1 lunch 1pm grammar and reading. 1:30pm. done for the day For exercise we use games on the Wii. When it gets warmer, we will go outside. We also have an exercise bike. Three times a week, we try to have an outing of some kind. Go to the store, a cafe, bank or whatever. Our day varies depending on his temperament and how he is responding. Because of the severity of the ADHD, the above schedule is very flexible. Some days we might not get started until 11am and might get done at 1. We work when he is able to focus and function.
Update February 12, 2012 An update. In chatting with news people, it was explained to me how the story is reported. Since the report from the Sheriff Department reported it as an accident, the news people felt that there really wasn’t a lot else to report. I can see where they would say that. And I agree with that. Since it is an accident, there was no real reason to think that our district was being inaccurate in their portrayal of bullying in our district as being something that happens 3 or 4 times a year. I appreciate the news person for helping me understand how they work. I applaud them for their efforts at fair and accurate reporting. Thank you: Why Not Fathers =============================================== February 10,2012 Our school district made the news. http://www.kxnet.com/story/16909355/garrison-school-incident So I wrote this response to the reporter.
