So, evidently, a majority of David’s team at the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) thinks that he is ready to come home. Never mind the self-harming and manic episodes from last month. Never mind the negative behaviours or need for him to have a highly structured environment. So while his Mother and I don’t think that he is ready to come home, and that his primary doesn’t think he is ready to come home, and that some of his care team that has been with him since basically the beginning of our struggles to get him services doesn’t think he is ready to come home… There is a pretty fair chance that he will be released in the next two to three weeks. Today I was asked if there was a discharge plan in place. HELLO?!? Up until last Friday we had no idea this was even on the radar!
We saw David today. The plan was a two hour visit. We were there 20 minutes. The argument started because David decided that he wanted to be obstinate. I was getting the situation defused when David decided that he was done with the visit and took off down the hallway. I had to go after him to ensure that he didn’t get into anything he wasn’t supposed to. Once he was outside, I hollered for him to stop and talk to me. He was about half a city block away and picking up speed. Staff at this point was coming out of the residence. So I told them that he was running away from us. In his anger, he left behind all of his toys. So his sister brought them out to the door by his cottage. David erupted. Said that she was stealing his stuff. His sister engaged and
We are still here. WhyNotFathers.com has been largely quiet because there hasn’t been a lot to say. That has changed. David’s behavior is becoming more erratic. The residence has undergone a med wash with him. A med wash is where they take him off all of his meds and put him on new ones. This has been very difficult with out of control behaviors. We are looking at a temporary placement in a different facility while he completes the med wash. This other facility will be in a different town, around 5 hours from home. If David remains out of control then he will need to be moved to a different facility – Long Term. More as we hear about it. Tweet #fighting4answrs
