what are you here for then?

a conversation with David… “You can’t access the Internet using the Wii David, you know that.” – Dad “I am not accessing the Internet, I am looking at games and reading wimpy kids books online.” – David “Unless it’s educational, it’s not allowed David.” – Dad He turns off the Wii, and goes stomping off.  Mom is working on lesson plans at the kitchen table. I tell him he needs to be in the living room with me. “there is nothing for me to do here…” – David “We aren’t here to entertain you David.”  – Dad “Well then what are you here for?” – David He then proceeded to tell me that he can’t wait to move into the residential facility and that he isn’t coming home from his school anymore. (the school is a day program at the residential facility) He also told me that since I beat

tantrum at 11

Nothing like a tantrum about medicine to end a perfectly good day. David takes his meds with Apple Juice.  Two of the meds are liquid and taste pretty nasty. Today I had everything ready for him to take his meds and he broke out into a tantrum because he didn’t have his apple juice.  Even after I told him that his apple juice is on the counter, and showed it to him, he had a tantrum about taking his meds. David had very positive comments from his day at school.  Positive behaviors.  then he gets home and has to let all of the negative behaviors loose.  He didn’t do it right after school, it actually started while I was trying to watch a movie with his older sister.  See, David wasn’t the center of attention at that point.  and in his world, that his just plain wrong. He also started

a wake-up at 0430

I was pretending to be asleep this morning when David got up at 4:30am. He comes over, taps me on the shoulder… “Dad, what time do I have to be up for school…?” I told him “6:30” so he went back to bed.  just as easy as could be.  this never happens. 🙂 No, I am not naive enough to think that he is suddenly going to stop roaming the house and stealing things in the wee hours of the night. All the same though, it was pretty neat. Why was I pretending to be asleep instead of actually sleeping?  David gets up and frequently gets into things that aren’t his.  So I was hoping to observe him returning to his bed with whatever device he stole from his siblings.  It is easier and far less time consuming to catch him in the act than it is to convince him
