I saw my son in handcuffs today.

I saw my son, David, in handcuffs today.  This is the first time.  Fourteen years old. It is heart wrenching to see your child in this position, for some reason I don’t think that this is the last time he will be in this spot. We are trying to break through to him that his actions have consequences. When you steal something, you get in trouble.  When you destroy the property of another, even if it belongs to a family member, there are consequences. Today, I saw my nightmares come true.  No parent wants to see their child in handcuffs.  Will the actions that we took today make a change on his outlook? Sadly, I don’t think so. When the Deputy Sheriff was here, David had huge tears rolling down his face.  After he left? Back to the same old David. Based on the recommendation of the deputy, we put

911. Out of control child

We were blessed with the appearance of one of the sisters for the night.  David has 2 brothers and 2 sisters.  The sisters generally don’t come around because of him, as is their right. So we were doing the family thing, supper.  David got upset with me because I wouldn’t let him have pie without eating his meal.  And because he knows that he isn’t allowed to have Gatorade more than once a day and then only with permission.  He has been sneaking them.  It isn’t a big deal. A bit later, we sat down to watch a movie, and things escalated when I asked him to please be quiet so that others could watch the movie.  Too much to ask for. Since we make him ask permission to use the bathroom, he likes to start fires in there plus he has an interest in chemistry.  So I took him

trying to do something different

We are trying desperately to change the way we respond to David. Trying not to feed into his moods. Trying to ignore his “little” behaviors. Trying to ignore the digs and insults. Trying to ignore the “affection” he shows the pets. It is a struggle. Today, I was in the city for an appointment.  The first thing that he said was “we were doing just fine until you came home.”  I hadn’t even gotten the door shut. We sent him outside to pick up garbage in the yard, he spread more garbage out on the yard. We offered him a snack at 8pm, and he had a fit because it wasn’t the right snack.  He ended up eating what we offered. My health is being affected.  My blood pressure is elevated. My body is aching constantly.  I hate this stress. How do I separate the way I feel from the
