explain this to me like I am a four year old.

David, has a history of obsessive compulsive behaviors.  Especially relating to electronic devices. David takes cell phones, remote controls, mp3 players.  The people at his school knew this before he started there.  They were reminded of this yesterday.  We discussed this, yesterday.  Why then would you leave your purse or cell phone where it is accessible by him?  Isn’t that just setting him up for failure? David needs to be responsible for his own actions. I agree. But don’t they also need to think about their actions? They are supposed to be professionals. I am so frustrated right now. They described him as “incredibly quick” they said he “went down on one knee, got back up, and we knew that he had taken something, just not what that something was.”  So now David is going to be charged with theft.  Because it happened at the school and not the residence

Heart is breaking… for David.

Today, we participated in an IEP meeting for David.  Every time we meet, it is with the hope that good news and progress will be noted.  Today, not so much. David is evidently determining for himself when he wants to be in school.  If he doesn’t want to be there, he leaves the building and returns to the residence hall where his room is.  Evidently he has missed 72 hours this term.  When he is present, he swears worse than a truck driver, and uses the c%*T word frequently. He is mocking the behavior of others, and will apply the conditions of others to himself.  He pushes some kids to the point of tears with his mocking of their behavior.  If a child is acting out, he coaches them to act out even more. We don’t understand why they can’t keep him in the classroom.  No discipline will cause him to

Assumptions about Autism are Detrimental to All Involved

By Danica C. (originally posted at My Corner of the Pond) Something that has been bothering me for a while is someone who visited my family a while back & spent maybe an hour or two. This person told another friend my daughter was not on spectrum. Now this person has never up till that day spent time with my daughter. As far as I know she knows nothing of kids on the high end of the spectrum. Every individual with Autism is unique. No two diagnoses are the same. Just like each person has a different personality, each person has a different level of Autism. Yet she is an expert & is now telling others that I am making up my daughters autism? Why would someone make that up? If she were not on spectrum why do I have a 2 binders 3 inches thick full of reports, assessments
