The first pass of this trip.

David has been on a plan.  This relates to behaviors they display in the residence hall.  As a result he was at risk of losing part of his pass / visit with me. I am not complaining.  My reality is that if he is exhibiting behaviors, and I am in town, then he loses pass time.  My rules.  It is harsh.  But he is being held accountable for his behavior. So when I found out he was on a plan, I was a bit leery of how any pass would go. Imagine my surprise.  The pass was incredible.  No issues.  We ate supper in the dining hall, and it reminded me a lot of military mess halls. He ate 90% of his supper, which I gather is unusual.  His meds take away much of his appetite so he basically eats and gets rewarded for doing so. When David was at

the good stuff

Dear readers, as many of you know through the writings here, David has been in residential placement.  He is on his third major placement and like 10th or 11th minor placement.  Major is facilities where he has stayed for more than 30 days, and minor are all of the others. This past week was a fantastic week for him.  He has some residents in the facility that have been picking on him.  Rather than fighting back physically, he has chosen the power of the pen and filed a complaint.  This is the second time he has chosen this method rather than fighting.   For David this is huge and needs to be celebrated! The other very positive thing that occurred this last week is that David moved up a level.  He is at the highest privilege level he has ever been at in this facility. Does that mean he is

the greatest treasure

David turned thirteen years old last Tuesday.  On July 28th, will be 11 years since his adoption was finalized.  How quickly the time goes. For David’s birthday, we went out to the facility he lives in to visit him.  Most of the family went.  We arrived late Monday, spent Tuesday, Wednesday and part of Thursday visiting David. He wasn’t with us all of the time, just in 2 or 3 hour spurts.  It was good to see him.  He has grown so tall. The hard part wasn’t just in seeing him, it was the fear.  I could sense it in his siblings, though they all did their best to hide it.  I know Mom, I and Aunt all felt that fear. Before we even arrived at the facility we had a plan in place to lock up all of our technology while David was with us. Nothing like giving him
