Our Favorite Special Ed Teacher

Today’s post is about our favorite special education teacher.  Yes. I know what you are thinking.. “Again?  What did this person do now?” Actually, it isn’t what you think. This teacher has moved to a new district, and while I am happy that the teacher is no longer working with my children, and hasn’t been for a few years actually, I do have knowledge of their work through my bride. So let me say this.  This post is not about complaint. Rather, I am proud of what this teacher has accomplished this year.  This teacher is in a work environment where they can get the support that they need to excel at being the kind of special education teacher I think that they can be.  And I think that they will be the kind of teacher that they hoped to be when they first started out to become an educator. Today’s Victory Goes to: the school 3-20-2012

Yep, you read it right.  Today’s victory goes to the school.   Tonight was the Spring music concert for the junior and senior high school bands and choirs.  What a fantastic performance by all involved in the music department.   From the guest conductor’s to the solos performed by the band leader, both guests, and members of the bands, today was all about the music.  If these kids can take one piece of tonight’s performance with them, let them know that music can be with them for the rest of their lives.  They don’t need to be in a band to enjoy music.   Kudos to all involved.  And thank you for the excellent performances.     Tweet #fighting4answrs

So today, in the midst of the chaos of trying to figure out what the best path is for my family, I got a call from our state Department of Public Instruction.  (DPI) A couple of days ago, I mentioned on my blog that I was submitting a request for a facilitated IEP to the Department.  Today I got a call from the Department telling me that the school requested a facilitated IEP.  A move that the Department admits is highly unusual.  It is very rare for a school to think that a facilitated IEP is beneficial to them. So why are they doing this?  Is it in response to the attack on my daughter yesterday?  Are they hoping that if they give with one child, we won’t push them on the assault issue? I have been in contact with the investigative department of DPI as well.  I asked them
