Another look at the boxes…

Hopefully you have read my previous post about boxes. If not, click here. In life, we all have boxes that are different shapes and sizes.  Can you imagine if every box looked the same? Now, you might not appreciate all of this talk about boxes.  Let’s look at it from another perspective. How about if we talk about people? The people that we surround ourselves with, come in all shapes and sizes, colors, nationalities and ages. Some are tall and thin, others are tall and stout.  Does that make each person worth any less as a human being? Some layer on the cosmetics to cover up some perceived defect in their appearance. It is what is on the inside that counts.  The contents of the “box” that makes it beautiful, handsome… what ever. And yes, my wife does sell Avon.  I am surprised at the amount of stuff that Avon

Let’s talk about boxes…

You ever wonder about boxes?  Me either.  Until… My wife sells Avon.   I wouldn’t say it is a huge money maker, but she enjoys it.  Every other week or so, she gets four or five boxes.  We also order regularly from Amazon.com.  So, we had this stack of boxes in our house, most of them get recycled.  They are fairly uniform in depth and width.  Some are even the same height. Have you ever noticed how each box is different? This box is taller than that box.  That box is narrower than this box over here.  This box is brown, that box is white.  Some boxes have writing on them, others don’t. The amazon boxes even come with pockets of air.  Not sure what to think about those boxes. I recently received a package from a good friend that was shipped from The UPS Store.  It was uniform.  same height,

community engagement – Thank you Optimists

Today, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of optimists.  The Optimist Club of Bismarck kindly accepted my request to speak to their group.  It went well for my first engagement as a speaker. I spoke about our Family Voices of North Dakota organization.  I answered questions regarding special health care needs and our children. The group was highly inquisitive, and I thoroughly enjoyed speaking there.  Next time, I won’t plan a lunch date for after the meeting, so I can partake of the food enjoyed by the club. That is a bonus. Plus, I was given a Optimist Club Coaster as a gift for speaking.  Color me surprised.  I wasn’t expecting a gift, and was happy just for the opportunity to speak to their group.
