Articles relating to mental health are in this category. Typically they will fall into one of two categories. Yours, or your child’s. Yes, your mental health is important.

Emotionally drained

In less than twelve hours, mom and I will pick David up from his current residential facility. We will then drive 462 miles more or less, and admit him to his new facility. While I have to believe that this is in his best interest, I also feel that in some small way we are letting him down.  There will not be any weekly visits.  Sure we can Skype, and talk on the phone, but it isn’t the same as being in the same room as your child.  You can’t give Skype a hug. In the end, I have to believe that this is the right thing. One thing I don’t understand about the new facility.  We have to do weekly therapy sessions.  Time and time again, therapy  has shown that David sees no benefit from these sessions.    Even therapists have said that he doesn’t benefit from them.   But, we

Scheduled IEP meeting

So it seems that David’s current teacher has some concerns about him transitioning to another school.  She wants to have an IEP before he moves and starts school out there. David adores his teacher.  If she asks him to do something, he does it.  Sure he occasionally acts up, but, nothing like last year where we couldn’t keep him in the school. I hate the idea of changing so many things in his life.  Moving will be bad enough, but leaving a good teacher behind, might make things worse. Time will tell. A tragedy in North Carolina

A tragedy in North Carolina.  Police shoot and kill an 18 year old man, identified as 5 foot 3 inches tall and weighing 100 pounds. His mother, Mary Wilsey stated vehemently, “This is not how mental health patients should be treated”. ========= Our son David has mental illness.  He is 83 pounds of lean muscle.  When he is in a manic state, it take three or four people to restrain him, so that he doesn’t hurt either himself or anyone else. Is it necessary for police officers to use deadly force?  In this instance, evidently the officer felt it was justified.  Even after the man was tasered, and being restrained by two other officers.  I don’t have access to all of the facts.  The people who do, who were present, who have the facts, well let’s hope that the truth comes out.  A tragedy all the way around, no matter
