blessings and victories

David is really blessed to have such a great team looking out for him. From therapists, to psychiatrists, respite providers to mentors, he has an incredible team of people looking out for his interests. It is nice to know that we can count on these people to support us when we tell the school that what they are doing is wrong. Each professional and social worker has said “what the school is doing to him and your family, is wrong…” It is discrimination against a child with special needs.   Today’s victory is brought to you by David. I was working on our truck today.  Big red I call her.  She was overheating, so we ended up replacing the heater core.  Along the way, we replaced the thermostat, radiator hose, one heater hose and 2 fan belts.  Plus I made an extensive trip to a junk yard with my father

snacks snacks and more snacks

Because of his high metabolism, David requires frequent snacks.  We do fresh fruit, canned fruit and baked goods.  The baked goods are more reward snacks than regular snacks. The dog was munching on a snack today.  Turns out he is getting his treats from David’s room.  Sure enough he had a whole box of Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies hidden in his room.  Grrrr… We don’t withhold food, rather we make every effort to ensure that he asks for permission, and that he doesn’t take them into his bedroom.  The only time he is denied a snack is right before meals. Recommendations?  We do lock our cupboards, but this cupboard is 6 feet off of the floor.   Tweet #fighting4answrs

Victory of the day 3-28-2012

Today’s victory is brought to you by David. David has a compulsion about electronic gadgets.  He takes them. Doesn’t matter who they belong to. Today he took his brother’s cell phone. Tonight, David gave it back without a fit, any lies, or a tantrum. If it only happens once in a while where he is honest about his takings, and gives things back, that is a victory.  Eventually, maybe we can get him trained to stop stealing.  But it is huge that he gave an item back without a meltdown.
