An open letter to the House Appropriations Committee – ND Legislature

Chairman, Members of the Committee. I am writing this here, because I can’t make it today to testify in person.  I believe in the citizen legislature.  I have to believe that you will read these words. My family adopted a special needs child from our state.  When the adoption was finalized, he was court ordered to be under Medicaid until he reached age 18.   We have learned that this can mean a lot of things.  We have  had medicaid coverage turned off, had to pay a recipient liability of 954 dollars a month, and been told that there is nothing more that can be done for our son. A quick bit of history, at the end, I will post some links to relevant sections of this blog, although if you have time, I highly recommend that you start at the home page.  The blog itself is a record of our

There is so much bad news in the world.  I have said this before. So let’s celebrate something good. Laughter. Smiles. Tears of joy Life. I am not a biblical scholar.  Can’t claim to be.  In fact, I rarely attend an organized church, largely because I believe that we find God in the world around us, in the loved ones we have in our lives, and in each other. I believe.  And to me that is

Birthday wishes for kindness

So many friends wished me a happy birthday. Thank you all. If you can read this, then know that I count you as a friend. A couple of weeks ago a good friend passed away. Oren Miller was his name. He said that you can find Heaven where you look. Where you are. Google his name to see what I am talking about, I promise you will be enriched. So I challenge each of you. Look at the world around you. Hug your kids if you have any. If you don’t have any, hug your partner/spouse, visit a friend. Above all, show kindness to others. It will be returned to you a hundredfold. I love random acts of kindness. purchasing a coffee for the person behind me in line, a meal when I can afford one for someone else. All of these things can brighten the day of a stranger.
