Generalizations, how they don’t help

We have this saying in the Autism community.  “If you have seen a child with Autism, you have seen A child with Autism.” You have seen one child.  Why one? Because no two kids are exactly alike, including twins. So why would it be any different for an adopted child? David is adopted.  David has, among other things, Reactive Attachment Disorder. I am adopted, I can see similarities in my behaviors as a child to David, just not as severe. It isn’t like they have this tattoo on their arm, like a bar code or something that says “adopted”. Why do I bring this up? A message of giving thanks.

I shared this on my facebook wall.  It struck me as something that my many readers may want benefit from reading. ======================================== If you are reading this, then you are in some way important to me. It is my hope that on this American holiday, Thanksgiving, that each of you have a blessed day with friends and/or family. If you are lucky like me, they are one and the same. We also need to be kinder to our fellow man. If you peel the skin off of one person from every race and/or ethnic group you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart. I am not advocating peeling the skin off of anyone, rather
