What do you mean?

This has become David’s favorite saying when confronted with a behavior.  Confronted isn’t the best way to describe how we deal with his behaviors, but it works for the purposes of this post. “David, what are you doing upstairs?”  I ask. “What do you mean?” he responds. “David, why did you steal my keys?”  I ask. “What do you mean?” he says. For everything that he is confronted on, his response is nearly automatic.  “What do you mean?” Most of the time, just in case he isn’t understanding what we say, we explain it to him.   Another odd thing happened tonight.  He took his meds with water, just like always.  They immediately came right back out. Immediately.  Thankfully we were in the kitchen when it happened.  See, he thinks that if he is throwing up, he won’t have to go to safe bed tomorrow.  Little does he know that

Lies, Lies, Lies

Does he not think that we are going to catch him in these lies? David came home from the safe bed. One of the rules of the place is that he is not allowed off campus.  AT ALL.  For any reason. So he came home with a story about how he went to Menard’s with staff and two residents.  The staff spent 15 dollars on a remote control for him. Yeah, let me check on the veracity of your story little buddy. I wonder if we can get him a job as a politician.   Tweet #fighting4answrs

The truth is

It has been 24 hours since I left David in the safe bed. I am trying to adjust to sleeping, but don’t want to make too much change, as he will be back home on Saturday. The truth is, I miss him.  I don’t miss the tantrums.  I miss the good David that comes home from school and talks for 45 minutes about his school day, seeming to take only three or four breaths during the whole conversation.  I miss stepping on his cars, and telling him that he needs to stay out of the path of travel in the living room with his toys. A  part of me is sad that he wasn’t upset when I left him there yesterday.  To him, it was just another day. I don’t miss the constant abuse and verbal sparring.
